There have been a couple of similar discussions, but this one is for weapons that could actually be added to the game (nothing that is overpowered or with an overly large effect).


Deepworld needs more weapons.

Currently, There are only around 6 different guns in the game and several melee weapons; definitely not enough for variety. Most players would also stick to their strongest weapon. Adding more weapons to the game would improve variety and allow for more choices.

The current weapons have several different attack types (physical, steam(heat?), cold, fire and electricity(?)) and there are enemies with different resistances (skeleton terrapus resists electricity). These attack types should be built upon with future weapons and enemies.

Here I have some possible guns:

Freeze gun:
- Like the frost gun, but it slows down the target's movement speed.
- Slightly more expensive and specialised than the frost gun
Fireball gun:
- Slower than the flamethrower, less bullet drop (like fire turret).
Acid sprayer:
- Shoots a continuous stream of acid particles
- Extra-long particle life: Good for caves or making temporary acid pools
- Same damage as acid pool
Some sort of high-powered rifle:
- Basically any kind of long range weapon
- Maybe even something that shoots a beam of compressed steam (how is that possible?)
- Slower, high damage, almost no bullet drop, piercing(?)
- knock-back?
Mechanical crossbow:
- ^See above^
Blunderbuss:
- Shoots either a single heavy round or a bunch of shards (they could be one object for collision purposes)
- Better for close range (the damage could be relative to remaining particle life)
- Basically a shotgun
Steampunk gatling gun
- Handheld, shoots much faster and consumes more steampower than the musket
- Knock-back on user, even higher knock-back if the user is not grounded
- There could be a slower automatic rifle version (between musket and gatling gun)

Above I have mentioned knock-back and piercing attacks.
Knock-back is basically non-existent in the current weapons but it wouldn't be hard to implement.
Piercing attacks are more difficult to implement. Maybe piercing through blocks can also be affected by the block type (reinforced blocks could stop all projectiles while wood lets things through).

Currently, the energy cannon has the best range and damage which means that most players would use this weapon for everything. If some of these weapons with different effects were to be implemented; even the guy with all of the weapons wouldn't opt for the same gun on every occasion.

Melee weapons

Currently, the best melee weapon is the fine sledgehammer, I'm not sure if it works in PvP though.
What about swords?
More stuff needed.
How would these function? Terraria's directional attacking with spears was pretty good.

Throwable grenades have also been mentioned.

I have tried to retexture some of the sprites to illustrate these examples. The colours could be more contrasting, but they are fine for now.

First picture: Edited frost gun sprite (supposed to be a freeze gun)

Seventh picture: Edited fine sledgehammer (What are other possibilities of melee weapons?)

    If we get too many weapon suggestions, this might turn into the other weapon threads. And don't post ideas for weapons such as a gun that shoots milk, or a cannon that shoots miniature robots.
    What does everyone think of the current weapons?

    Here's some weapons:

    1. Paintball gun (paints the enemy)
    2. Gatling gun (large amount of bullets, takes a bunch of steam)
    3. Vaporizer (Massive pain to enemies and sucks up water)
    4. Magma Launcher (small gun with a volcano on the tip, shoots hurls of lava)
    5. Steam Powered Grenade Launcher (Sounds cool huh?)
    6. Terrapus Laucher (shoots terrapus on enemies head)
    7. Lighting Rod (Easy to guess what it does)
    8. Wizards Staff (Cast magical spells
    9. Summoners Stone (Summons a beast to attack enemy)
    10. Necromancers Stone (Wakes up a skeleton from the grave to attack enemy)

    I am a strong believer that this game needs a bow and arrow just for fun :D

    I'm actually ok with the types of guns we have now, but I think we should be able to enhance them. The weapons are kind of weak. At the very least, I'd like them to drive enemies BACK. I find it totally obnoxious that I'm shooting something with an ENERGY GUN and it's forward pursuit isn't slowed in the slightest. I always take damage from terrapi or automata no matter how far back I'm able to catch them...if someone shoots me, I will slow down.

    Having said that, I obviously like the idea of the frost cannon slowing things in their tracks. I think too many guns in the inventory are going to be confusing; I don't need MORE guns, I need my current guns to be able to do more.

    Would all of these be premium? I feel there should be new non-premium weapons so they do not feel left out. For premium there should be more weapons too.

    I don't think the current weapons are underpowered, the energy cannon might just be a high-damage weapon.
    However, they might be releasing weapon cartridges that enhance your weapons in the future.

    It could be reloaded with some sort of mechanism.

    When I was talking about not enough for variety, I also meant not enough choices for non-premium. Currently, they only really have a choice between steam gun or musket.
    Some of these weapons such as the blunderbuss or fireball gun could be for free players.
    Question: Are there level requirements for certain weapons? (can a free player use an energy cannon)
    If not, then free players could simply buy the more complicated weapons from premium players.

    It will look better in-game when the new annimations are in use and when its made a little bigger/longer than that...because with that current lenth, the detail that makes it look nice are so squashed into a small space...which makes it look rather dull. The barrel should be longer (unless you want it to shoot minniature darts/arrows) and the scope and stuff a bit bigger (the scope is to backwards for use and it looks a bit smaller than the eye)
    Crossbows of that size does exist but the one on the picture is obviosly a larger 2 hand one. Also, is the hand holding it at the rite position/trigger?
    I think the second hand should be holding it there for support (with the first hand a little more backwards where I think the trigger is?)
    I know the current annimations only show the one hand but when the new annimations are out a shooting annimation can be made where he looks threw the scope and uses his second hand for support.
    I know that picture is only there for a basic idea of what it will look like, this message is just for some hints or discussion on how the design of the real one should be implimented.

    Please don't spam vote this, I feel that I should tipe in a sepparate post because that one looks to long xD

    About the rifle:
    I just want to note that the rifle should have a longish barrel. (Or whatever you call the front part?) Rifles that where used in those times had long fronts (upon which a knife/dagger like blade was mounted on the front for close combat). In other words the rifles of those days had a bit longer front part than assault rifles or ak47's of today (they basically was the size of a sniper?)
    Now I'm not asking for a clownish long stupid looking gun design, but just to not make the gun's size resemblanse too close to the visiol of a pistol with an extension or silencer attached.

    The crossbow doesn't necessarily have to be two handed, and they don't always need a scope. The real reason why he can't look through the scope is because his arms are too short to hold it at the right distance. :|

    I play the Mac version so I have easy access to the texture files. I just changed some of the sprites from characters.png

    Just jail break your ipad or iPhone 5 but its illegal now but if you jail broke it earlier just look up a texture pack in files for deepworld

    Simply editing the textures does not count as hacking.

    I thought it was always illegal(?)


    Does anyone have any ideas for plausible melee weapons?

    (no terrapus launcher or wizard staff)
    But a well-crafted sledgehammer is a fine weapon.
