So I woke up this morning to see that my market world, Clockwise, has been griefed. Hundreds of hours of work and many precious items had been taken. Absolutely devastating, but not something that can't be repaired with time and patience.
I keep my friend list very short. Going on the friend list alone, there are only 3 suspects, all of whom have spent months working on the world with access to a Notch amongst other rares.
However, there are 3 suspects who were NOT on the friend list.
ONE: A player who was removed the friend list after stealing a Stunt Surfer. He denies, the evidence is only circumstantial, but he had motive, opportunity, and the least sincere character of the few suspects.
TWO: A player I called out as a dungeon thief. He wasn't happy about being called out and so a petty argument started between us. I added him as a friend once to see if he was online, but then promptly removed him afterwards.
THREE: A wildcard. A player who I added temporarily yesterday to help me build. I removed him before logging off yesterday.
Of these three, ONE is a known thief with a motive and TWO had a motive. Also, the names of ONE and TWO are plastered all over spawn in supposed 'innocence'. However, one of the thieves has made a grave mistake. They placed a sign at spawn saying 'You should never have trusted me'. I have, of course, protected this sign with a 'me only' pro and alerted @mikelaurence
. Perhaps they can tell me who placed it for concrete evidence.
I have heard before of players complaining that people not on their friend list could still mine. I am concerned that this has happened here.
If that isn't the case and it turns out that one of the three friends on my friend list did this, then I have to be humble and accept that no one can be trusted. However, if my suspicions are correct and it was done by one of the players not on my friend list, then serious questions will have to be asked over what is and isn't safe. A (very rough) estimate of 100 onyx worth of items was stolen and a lot of time wasted. Hopefully @mikelaurence
can reset the world back 8 hours, although unlikely.
